Search technologies, semantic technologies, and related fields have emerged as a next generation IT capability challenge. As the volume of company information continues to grow, the criticality of search and related fields as essential technologies grows to help compensate for the growing difficulty of finding information. Strategically, search is becoming the general "business intelligence center" of companies.The leader of this space will need to bring a transformational drive to the task, unify groups in disparate parts of the company and meld together a broad spectrum of technical and intellectual challenges. The central team will work closely with the IT delivery organization to operate key portions of the search activities, but will also need to coordinate with a distributed community of stakeholder data providers. Given the initial focus on search the areas that should be investigated in the future by this group could include but not be limited to optimization including simulation and nonlinear stochastic modeling, advanced portfolio analysis, option theory, predictive maintenance, lower cost process automation and workflow, social computing (collective intelligence), virtual worlds (for simulation, training, collaboration), artificial intelligence: pattern recognition, text mining, human-like behavior.This role ensures that Chevron Information technologies provide a robust, high value starting point for obtaining company information in many different aspects of company operations. It will evolve the business value and the potency of search and related technologies in keeping with the evolution in the overall industry and the ways that they are being leveraged.Position Details: Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:Recruits and manages a high impact team with diverse technical capabilities that address the technologies involved across various Chevron systems and distributed global locations, the analysis of business information needs to direct search focuses, and the linguistic assessment and interpretation of end user information needs implied by the patterns of searches being conducted.Fosters value-adding company relationships with key technology partners who have key search service offerings. This may include Google, Microsoft, SAP and others. Ensures that the technical capabilities of these providers and their internal best practices experience are leveraged by Chevron. Ensures that search technologies encompass document and intranet site retrieval, and also include a growing scope of business intelligence and data analytics results of implied queries.Coordinates with key operations partners within Chevron to ensure search capabilities encompass and unify as much of the key company information as possible. This includes cultivating an especially strong relationship with global infrastructure (GIL) design and operations staff to partner deeply on the scope of search operations that can be provided directly as an aspect of GIL infrastructure and information operations. Coordinates with Enterprise Architecture, GIL operations, Math Modeling, Energy Technology Company, and others to ensure Search is well integrated within overall IT operations.Coordinates with external information providers to exploit opportunities for leveraging third party data stores.Evangelizes search operations and benefits, ensuring that information owners readily participate in overall search operations.Ensures a common architecture for search integration becomes articulated and established.Establishes an entrepreneurial approach that encourages creative and adaptive exploitation and utilization of search technologies.
Skills:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:B.S. in Technical Discipline e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.5-10 (minimum) years progressive experience in Information Technology with a focus on managing and leading teams. Strong, demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies.Can drive change and build teams for effective results within organizations.Demonstrated ability to anticipate and overcome global challenges and maintain an enterprise-wide perspective and solution.Preferred Qualifications:M.S in Technical Discipline e.g. Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, etc.Relocation Assistance: YesEducation Required:Relevant IT Certification Plus Experience
